Every 6 months, Google releases a core update to help improve search results. The official announcement for the latest update came last week from Danny Sullivan, via the Twitter handle SearchLiason. Details remain similar to other core updates which will take 1-2 weeks to rollout. Websites are expected to experience fluctuations in the next few days.

The July 2021 update is the second part of the June 2021 Core Update which was released from June 2nd to the 12th. Due to some parts of the algorithm not being ready in June, Google chose to separate the update into two parts. SEO experts were already seeing massive fluctuations after the June Core 2021 updates. According to Google, if your site ranking changes with the June update, you may see a reversal or shift with the July 2021 Core Update.

Apart from the core updates, a number of updates were made between June and July.

  • Google Predator Update on June 10th that targets exploitative & slanderous sites. This update will automatically apply ranking protections that seek to prevent content from low quality sites appearing for name searches, according to Google.
  • Google Page Experience Update started on June 15th and will continue until Aug. Immediate impact of this rollout can be seen in the results of The Top Stories.
  • Google Spam Update Part 1 (June 23rd) and Part 2 (June 28th).
