SEM and SEO

SEO, or ‘Search Engine Optimization’, works to increase your website appearance when people search for products or services related to a business in Google, Bing or another search engine.

Paid search (SEM) vs organic search (SEO)

The traffic that comes from SEO is called organic search and SEM is paid search.

Both strategies rely on keywords to drive traffic to a website, but the techniques to achieve results are different. SEM is the preferred option for generating rapid results, but if you want to have long term suitable results for revenue you need to have a strong SEO strategy. SEO takes time to strategise, optimise, and ultimately deliver organic traffic.

Why is it important to rank higher in search engines?

Every day people search online before buying anything, but only 2-3% of searchers click beyond the first page of search results. When it comes to the share of traffic, roughly 20% to 30% of searchers click on paid results, and 70% to 80% of searchers click on SEO results.

This means SEO must be part of any business growth strategy that owns a website. This will help to increase quality and quantity of traffic to a website.

How does SEO work?

Search engines use bots to crawl every page on the web. These bots collect information about those pages and put them into an index. After this, algorithms analyse these pages considering hundreds of factors that will determine the position where they should appear in the search results page (SERP) for a query.

Content and website structure are key elements in a SEO strategy. For example, content quality, keywords research, crawlability, speed of the website, title, meta descriptions and much more need to be done to achieve the #1 position.
